&lt;b&gt;Andygrrrl&lt;/b&gt; - Despite being such a huge aficionado of horror, I am also actually a huge wuss - so &lt;b&gt;The Red Tree&lt;/b&gt; comes certified as being pretty wuss-friendly. It&#039;s &lt;i&gt;very&lt;/i&gt; emotionally intense, but I would say ultimately more unsettling and saddening than outright horrifying. Kiernan prefers not to be called a &quot;horror author,&quot; anyway.

Also, it&#039;s very nice to see a fantasy book whose main protagonists are all lesbians or bi, even if their lives are all terrible.]]></description>
