Helen Oyeyemi is a Nigerian-born British novelist who notoriously published her debut novel, the highly acclaimed strong>The Icarus Girl (2006), while only 18 and studying for her A-level exams. While at Cambridge University, she wrote and published two plays, and since then has published two more novels, The Opposite House (2007) and White for Witching (2009). Her work often deals with African heritage and mythology, the immigrant experience, and themes of hysteria and alienation, employing a darkly lyrical, magical realist style.
