From her official website: “I’m a writer, academic, and cultural crazy-quilt; I was born in India and lived in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, and Scotland before moving to California. I grew up reading folk tales and fairy tales from all over the world, so my fictional landscape is rather mixed.
I’m particularly interested in boundaries and the people who cross them; in shapechangers and halfbreeds and liminal states.
My favourite liminal space so far was Clarion 2007, for which I received the Octavia Butler Memorial Scholarship for writers of color. I wouldn’t have gotten in without the wonderful advice on the Absolute Write forums, and I might not have learned about the Carl Brandon Society if they hadn’t administered the award. I’m grateful to them all.”
