Peter S. Beagle

Peter S. Beagle (b. April 20, 1939) is the author of a number of works considered to be classics of modern fantasy, including The Last Unicorn (1968; with which Emera is obsessed) and A Fine and Private Place (1960; his first published novel, written at only 18 years old). His 2005 novelette “Two Hearts,” a sequel to The Last Unicorn, won both the Hugo and Nebula awards. Although he has stated that one of his goals as a writer is to make all of his fiction as different as possible, his works are all known for their melancholy lyricism and wry humor. Beagle has also written short fiction, nonfiction, screenplays, poetry, and song lyrics. He currently lives in Oakland, California.
