Thomas Ligotti (b. July 9, 1953) is considered a master of modern horror and weird fiction. His short fiction is grim and unsettling, and much inspired by the works of Poe, as well as Lovecraft, Blackwood, Machen, and other classic authors of cosmic and supernatural horror. He is famed for his longtime reclusiveness, and has spoken about the thematic and philosophical content of his writing being fueled by his chronic anxiety and depression.
