Oh, and

2010 Hugo nominations are out! Whoo!

…and yet again, remind me of the extent to which I don’t have time to keep up with current reading. Boo.

Between the two of us, I think Kakaner and I have read 5 things on the ballot (Boneshaker, The City & The City, Palimpsest, “Spar,” and Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader), which I suppose isn’t thaaat unrespectable… but still. I’d love to make it my goal to read everything on the short story ballot, at the least.

  1. I’m tempted to do something like that myself—I’ve never paid attention to book awards before, but I’m getting into the Hugos and the Nebulas now, and I’d like to be more up on current sci-fi/fantasy. If only I didn’t have this pesky dissertation taking up my valuable reading time…!

    RIGHT?

Short stories are always pretty doable, especially since the awards won’t actually be presented till September, and publishers usually try to make their Hugo-nominated pieces available for free online. :D

  3. I still have not sorted out how I feel about “Spar.”

And I have to confess that I haven’t read anything else, I don’t think. On the other hand, I’ve seen all of the Doctor Who episodes nominated! (I’m assuming that The End of Time wasn’t eligible? Because if it was, why isn’t it there? It wasn’t the greatest ever, but David Tennant! Last episode! And now I’ve just blathered on despite the fact that I have no idea if you’re at all interested in DW.)
